Why the Phoenix Suns should draft Chris Tiu #60

Like Minnesota, its a late pick that can be worth the risk.

The 46th and 60th pick (last pick) are good places to think about drafting international stars.

Robert Sarver is a businessman first, franchise owner second, so we know that picking Chris Tiu can intrigue him. After a good run with Yuta Tabuse in 2004, are they willing to see what can happen the second time around?

Can we do this again, 6 years later?

Note – why draft Chris instead of directly giving him a tryout, so to speak? well you’d be months ahead of schedule. and with the impending historic free agency coming up, time is of the essence.

By drafting Chris, a team could make a lot of money starting June 24 (draft day) If a team waits to the beginning of the season, that’s November, and most of the top free agents have likely already signed on with teams. The extra money a team would make wouldn’t be as useful because, well time is of the essence.

Eddie Gaedel, 2010 Style

Eddie Gaedel,  a 3-foot-7-inch baseball player in the 50′s caused an stir in baseball by becoming the shortest player in MBL history.

Well known showman and sports promoter, Bill Veeck orchestrated this stunt, and now, nearly 60 years later, is still something that history remembers.

Eddie’s # 1/8 jersey is displayed in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Getting Chris in the NBA is really a long shot, by any means. But so wasn’t Eddie Gaedel?

Hey NBA Execs, Bill Veeck and Eddie Gaedel are hall of famers. Care to take a chance?

Draft Chris Tiu

(Note: I’m not saying Chris is a midget, I’m just saying that the circumstances (extreme long shot) are comparable, 60 years apart.

Thanks to Bill Veeck

Why The Minnesota Timberwolves should draft Chris Tiu 56th Overall

Five!

The T”Wolves have five, count em, five draft picks in June!

A struggling franchise which needs a shot in the arm with their branding and image, drafting Chris Tiu would be an intriguing scenario.

After the Ricky Rubio fiasco, the T’Wolves may be tired of the international route, but Chris Tiu comes at a cheaper price. A much cheaper price.

Their second rounders, 45th and 56th, are deep enough to make a calculated risk like drafting the most popular player in a 90 million strong basketball loving country.

Why The Milwaukee Bucks should draft Chris Tiu 47th Overall

With three picks in the upcoming draft (15th, 37th, 47th) the Bucks are legit choice for Chris Tiu to be drafted.

In 2007, The Bucks went international with Yi Jianlian, who unfortunately caused quite a ruckus in his lack of enthusiasm for the great city of Milwaukee.

The Bucks management, however, have proven that internalization of the team brand is an issue, and that’s why they drafted him, in addition to his talents.

Even Bucks then GM Larry Harris knows the business implifications of drafting an international star “The Bucks will be global now”

However, we all know that it didn’t pan out as the Bucks had hoped, as he was traded a year later.

The difference with Chris is hes a much lower risk. The 6th pick was way too high risk anyway for Yi Jianlian.

Tabbing Chris Tiu at the 47th pick would be a great pick, because not many second round picks could cause a ruckus and international attention like he can.

Potentially the most unique 2nd round pick in history.

The Bucks have a chance, will they take Chris Tiu?

Ed Wang, NFL Prospect

Click Here for the NFL Page.

Different sport, different country, same impact.

The globalization of sport is in full scale as the buzz around NFL Prospect Ed Wang has NFL executives all giddy for international expansion.

Ed Wang, the first full ethnic Chinese NFL prospect ever, is making headlines because of well, marketing potential.

Its the same thing we’re doing for Chris. The difference is

* Chris plays in a country where the number one sport is basketball – in Ed’s case, American football has barely made a dent in the Chinese culture, whereas everybody, and boy do I mean EVERYBODY plays basketball in the Philippines.

* Chris is already a proven brand ambassador – sure Ed is new and exciting as a sports ambassador, but Chris already has a proven track record.

Best of luck to Ed Wang, I hope you make it on the roster! We’ll be rooting for ya!

NBA execs, the NFL is in on it, why let this opportunity pass you by?

Comparing Chris Tiu and David Beckham

Well it was bound to happen. Lets take a quick look at the endorsement achievements of these two popular superstars

Chris Tiu CATEGORY David Beckham
Adidas Sports Apparel Nike
SMART Telecoms Vodafone
Volvo Automobile General Motors
Clear Shampoo Grooming Gillette
Active White Beauty Coty

* Note: Chris hosts TV shows on prime time which Becks does not. Although Becks loves the limelight and has a high profile relationship, whereas Chris likes to keep his personal life private

This is just a small sample of the things they can achieve off the court/pitch, so this is something a team should strongly consider.
